Laparoscopic Appendectomy
Using Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) technology, this procedure involves making 3 small incisions on the abdomen to insert a camera (laparoscope) and surgical instruments. The incisions are about 0.5 - 1 centimeter in size. The advantages of this method include small wounds, less pain for the patient, a faster recovery, and a reduced risk of infection and other complications.
Laparoscopic Appendectomy Procedure
- The patient will be put under general anesthesia before the procedure.
- The surgeon makes one 1 cm incision near the navel for the camera and two 0.5 cm incisions above the pubic bone and on the lower right abdomen for the surgical tools. The surgeon then removes the appendix.
- The total procedure time is approximately 1 hour.
- After the procedure is complete, the patient will be moved to a recovery room for about 2 hours and then transferred to a patient room. After a 2-day hospital stay, the doctor will consider discharging the patient to go home.
Post-Operative Care
- You may experience bloating or abdominal discomfort, which usually resolves on its own. If you have abnormal symptoms such as severe abdominal pain, a hard abdomen, significant bloating, shortness of breath, or fever, return to see a doctor immediately.
