LASIK Center Header

The LASIK Center at Khon Kaen Ram Hospital provides vision correction services for myopia (nearsightedness) and astigmatism using Femtosecond laser technology. We feature the most advanced innovation called ReLEx SMILE or "Bladeless, Small Incision LASIK." This technique significantly reduces complications associated with traditional methods (such as PRK or LASIK). We utilize world-class technology from Carl Zeiss Meditec AG, Germany, for both assessment and treatment. Our team of expert ophthalmologists and experienced professionals will provide guidance and follow-up through every step of your journey to clear vision.

  • Corneal & Eye Measurement: Corneal topography atlas 9000, Digital fundus camera, and Corneal tomography.
  • Corneal Reshaping Laser: Mel-90 Excimer Laser (5th Generation) with 500 Hz speed, featuring the Advanced Ablation Algorithm (Triple-A).
  • Femtosecond Laser: Used for creating corneal flaps and performing flapless vision correction (ReLEx SMILE): VisuMax Femtosecond laser (3rd Generation).
  • Advanced Treatment Planning Software: CRS Master - Customized Refractive Surgery / Topoguided / Enhancement.

Available Treatments

  • For patients who are not suitable for LASIK due to very high myopia, high astigmatism, or thin corneas, we recommend Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL / Phakic IOL).
  • Correction of Presbyopia (age-related long-sightedness) for those aged 40+ using Monovision FemtoLASIK or Monovision ReLEx SMILE technology.
  • Treatment for Keratoconus (bulging cornea) by using Femtosecond laser to implant Intracorneal Rings (ICR) to strengthen the corneal structure.

Careers that Require Vision Correction

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

01
How many laser vision correction methods are available?
A:
There are 3 main methods: PRK, FemtoLASIK, and ReLEx SMILE.
02
What is the difference between FemtoLASIK and ReLEx SMILE?
A:
1. FemtoLASIK: Uses two lasers—a Femtosecond laser to create a corneal flap (opening the cornea) and an Excimer laser to reshape the cornea and correct vision.
2. ReLEx SMILE: Uses only the Femtosecond laser. It does not require creating a corneal flap, resulting in a smaller incision, increased safety, and stronger corneal structure. It also helps reduce dry eye symptoms after the procedure.
03
Who is a suitable candidate for LASIK?
A:
Individuals aged 18-40 with stable vision (no prescription changes) for at least 1 year.
04
Are there laser vision correction options for those over 40?
A:
If there are no existing eye conditions like cataracts or retinal diseases, you can undergo a screening. The doctor will design an appropriate treatment plan based on your individual needs.
05
How long does the initial eye evaluation take?
A:
A thorough evaluation takes approximately 1-2 hours.
06
Can I have the evaluation and surgery on the same day?
A:
It is possible, but we recommend having the evaluation at least one day prior. This allows the doctor to plan properly, as some patients with dry eyes may need Collagen plugs or artificial tears before proceeding.
07
Does the surgery cost include medication?
A:
The cost is a package price that includes medication on the day of surgery and post-operative follow-up visits (excluding cases where special additional medications are required during follow-ups).
08
How long does the surgery take? Is hospitalization required?
A:
The procedure itself takes about 20-30 minutes, with approximately 1 hour for preparation. You can return home immediately after; no overnight stay is required.
09
Will I see clearly immediately after the procedure?
A:
Generally, vision improves by the next morning, though it may still be slightly hazy due to irritation. Vision typically becomes clear and stable after one week of rest and following the eye drop regimen.
10
How long is the recovery period?
A:
Rest at home for 1 day. You can see the doctor the next morning and return to work as usual. However, you must keep water out of your eyes for 1 week and avoid swimming or diving for 1 month.
11
How many follow-up visits are required, and is there a fee?
A:
There are approximately 4 visits: 1 day after surgery, 1 week, 1 month, and 3 months. There is no physician service fee (you only pay for medications if necessary).
12
Are the results permanent?
A:
LASIK results are permanent. However, individuals with very high myopia (nearsightedness) or astigmatism initially might experience a slight regression of their prescription over time.
13
If my vision regresses, can it be corrected again?
A:
Generally, enhancements can be performed without additional surgical fees (excluding medical supply costs of approximately 4,000 THB per visit).
14
Is there accommodation for patients traveling from other provinces?
A:
The hospital provides guest rooms for patients and relatives on-site (Dormitory 2). Please inquire with our staff for immediate assistance.
