Self-Care After PRK

  • Maintain a normal diet, but strictly avoid alcoholic beverages.
  • On the first day after the procedure, avoid work or activities; resting and sleeping is recommended.
  • Strictly follow the eye drop schedule prescribed by the doctor. Always wash your hands thoroughly before applying drops.
  • Wear sunglasses whenever you go outdoors for 2 weeks to protect your eyes from dust, smoke, wind, and sunlight, as these irritants can hinder visual recovery.
  • Be careful not to let water get into your eyes for 2 weeks. Do not swim or go diving for 1 month.
  • Do not rub your eyes for 2 weeks.
  • Never remove the therapeutic contact lens yourself. The doctor will remove it during your follow-up appointment, typically 5 days after the procedure.
  • Attend all follow-up appointments as scheduled by the doctor.

Symptoms You May Experience on the First Day

  • Tearing, possibly accompanied by nasal congestion or a runny nose.
  • Eye irritation or a burning sensation, similar to having sand or wind in your eyes.
  • Eye pain, which can be managed with oral pain relief medication (1 tablet every 4–6 hours).
  • Vision will initially be blurry, especially when reading, but it will gradually improve over time.
