Post-Vaccination Care: Typhoid Vaccine

Typhoid Vaccine Aftercare Instructions

Common Side Effects

  1. Local Reactions: Pain, swelling, redness, or a small hard lump at the injection site. This occurs in more than 10% of cases. If your child experiences significant pain, you may apply a cold compress. These symptoms usually resolve on their own within 2–3 days.
  2. Fever: Occurs in more than 1% of cases. You may give your child a cool sponge bath to reduce the temperature. If the fever is high or persistent, administer fever-reducing medication (Antipyretics) as directed by your physician.

When to Seek Immediate Medical Attention

Severe allergic reactions to this vaccine are extremely rare but can be serious. Please seek emergency medical care immediately if your child experiences any of the following:

  1. Severe Allergic Reaction (Anaphylaxis): Such as hives, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face, lips, eyes, or tongue.
  2. High Fever: A temperature that does not respond to medication or sponge baths.
  3. Persistent Local Reaction: Significant pain or swelling at the injection site that lasts longer than 2–3 days.
