Treatment and Rehabilitation for Paresis, Paralysis, Depression, Migraine

Patients with neurological and brain diseases such as stroke, depression, migraine, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), insomnia, Bell's palsy, and Parkinson's disease are typically treated with a combination of medication and physical therapy. However, a number of these patients do not respond well to traditional methods, with some still experiencing symptoms like limb weakness.

Therefore, modern technology, namely **Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS)**, is now being used to treat and restore brain and nervous system function alongside traditional treatments. This method is simple, safe, painless, and does not require general anesthesia. Treatment results are more effective when patients receive continuous therapy as recommended by their doctor.

The Principle of TMS Treatment

TMS uses electromagnetic waves to stimulate the brain, helping to accelerate the reconnection of brain cells and regulate the function of neurotransmitters. This allows the brain's command signals to function more effectively.

Additionally, it can be used to stimulate the peripheral nervous system, such as the spinal cord, nerves, and muscles, to induce changes and improve their function.

What diseases is TMS suitable for? How many sessions are needed?

  1. **Stroke**: Helps restore function and symptoms such as:
    • Muscle weakness in limbs, improving weakness and reducing spasticity.
    • Swallowing dysfunction, improving the ability to swallow and reducing the risk of aspiration.
    • Speech difficulties, improving communication abilities.

**Recommended treatment duration is 30-60 minutes, with a frequency of 3-5 times per week*.**

  1. **Depression**: Including postpartum depression, helping to reduce depressive symptoms and anxiety.

**Recommended treatment duration is 15-30 minutes, with a frequency of 5 times per week for 4-6 consecutive weeks*.**

  1. **Migraine**: Treatment for migraine headaches and chronic headaches.

**Recommended treatment duration is 30-60 minutes.**

  1. **Other diseases**:
    1. Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)
    2. Insomnia
    3. Bell's palsy
    4. Parkinson's disease

**\*The number of sessions per treatment course depends on the severity of the disease. For best results, treatment should be continued as recommended by a physician.**

Treatment Procedure

  • A neurologist will perform a thorough diagnosis and evaluation before treatment, such as locating and determining the stimulation parameters, advising patients and relatives on precautions, setting the frequency, recommending the frequency for continuous treatment, and monitoring periodically throughout the treatment process.
  • A trained doctor or specialist, upon knowing the treatment plan, will place the magnetic coil on the head, limbs, or other appropriate areas. Muscle twitching may occur during the procedure, but the patient will not feel pain and can return for sessions without hospitalization.

Advantages of TMS Treatment

  • Not harmful to the body
  • Painless, no recovery time needed
  • Reduces the amount and side effects of medication
  • Patients will feel immediate pain relief after the first treatment
  • With continuous treatment, the severity of headaches will decrease until they are completely gone, and it also helps prevent recurrence.

Contraindications for TMS Treatment

  • Not for patients with a history of seizures
  • Not for patients with ring-shaped metal implants
  • Not for patients with electronic devices implanted in their body, such as pacemakers, cochlear implants, etc.
