Post-Vaccination Care: Rabies Vaccine

Child receiving Rabies vaccine care

Common Side Effects After Vaccination

Side effects from the rabies vaccine are common, occurring in more than 10% of cases. These typically include:

  1. Muscle and Joint Pain: You may administer Paracetamol to relieve pain as recommended by a physician. These symptoms usually resolve on their own within 1–2 days.
  2. Pain, Swelling, or Redness: These local reactions occur at the injection site. Apply a cold compress to help reduce swelling and discomfort.
  3. Fever and Headache: Mild fever or headache may occur. Pain relievers and fever reducers (Antipyretics) can be used to manage these symptoms.

When to Seek Medical Attention

While most reactions are mild, please return to the doctor if the following symptoms occur:

  1. Persistent fever, chills, or severe flu-like symptoms.
  2. Extreme pain, intense redness, or excessive swelling at the injection site.
