Post-Vaccination Care: Dengue Vaccine

Child receiving Dengue vaccination and post-care

Common Side Effects After Vaccination

Side effects are quite common, occurring in more than 10% of cases. These typically include:

  1. Fever and Headache: Use a damp cloth to wipe the neck and joints to help lower the body temperature. If the fever persists, administer fever-reducing medication as recommended by your physician.
  2. Muscle Aches: You may use Paracetamol to relieve muscle pain. These symptoms generally resolve on their own within 3–5 days.
  3. Pain, Swelling, or Redness: These local reactions occur at the injection site. Apply a cold compress to provide relief and reduce swelling.

When to Seek Immediate Medical Attention

While severe side effects or allergic reactions are extremely rare, they can be serious. Seek medical help immediately if your child experiences any of the following:

  1. Difficulty breathing or wheezing.
  2. Severe dizziness or feeling faint.
  3. Persistent nausea or vomiting.
  4. Intense swelling, bruising (hematoma), or an itchy rash at the injection site.
