Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) in Children
Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) is a common condition in children. It is often an early indicator of congenital abnormalities in the urinary system, such as Vesicoureteral Reflux (VUR) or Urinary Tract Obstruction.
Symptoms to Watch For
Common signs of abnormal urination in children include:
- Pain or a burning sensation during urination (Dysuria).
- Frequent urination, feeling like the bladder isn't empty, or sudden urgency (Incontinence).
- Crying or showing distress while urinating.
- New-onset bedwetting in a child who was previously dry.
- Abnormal odor or color of urine, such as cloudy, sedimented, or blood-tinged urine.
- Pain or tenderness in the abdomen, lower stomach, back, or flanks.
- Unexplained High Fever: Especially in children under 2.5 years old. A UTI is a frequent cause of high fever in young children who may not show any other specific symptoms.

The primary treatment involves adequate hydration combined with a course of appropriate antibiotics as prescribed by a pediatrician.
