Info Dengue Fever Statistics and Symptoms

According to Department of Disease Control data (historical 2020), Dengue remains a significant health threat in Thailand, particularly in the Northeast region. Statistics show that the most affected groups are school-aged children and teenagers (ages 5–19). Khon Kaen consistently ranks among the top provinces for high infection rates.

Recognizing the Warning Signs

If you or your child exhibits the following symptoms, it may be Dengue Fever:

  • High Persistent Fever: A fever lasting more than 2 days, accompanied by a flushed face, headache, body aches, and loss of appetite.
  • Hemorrhagic Signs: Look for small red spots on the skin, bleeding gums, or abnormally dark/black stools.
  • Liver Enlargement: Pain or tenderness under the right rib cage.
  • Shock Phase (The Critical Period): Often occurs as the fever drops. Symptoms include intense stomach pain, restlessness, cold hands and feet, a rapid/weak pulse, and low blood pressure.

Effective Prevention Strategies

  1. Personal Protection: Avoid mosquito bites by sleeping under nets, using repellent, and wearing long-sleeved shirts and long trousers.
  2. Eliminate Breeding Sites:
    • Keep your home clean and store trash in sealed bags.
    • Keep water containers tightly covered.
    • Turn over unused containers and fill in any ground hollows where water can collect.
    • Use Abate sand to kill mosquito larvae in stagnant water.
