Pac Bronchoscopy

Lower respiratory tract endoscopy, or **Bronchoscopy**, involves using a small, flexible tube-like camera inserted through the mouth or nose, passing into the larynx and trachea to examine abnormalities in the bronchial tubes. It is also used to wash the inside of the bronchial tubes with saline solution to collect fluid for infection testing, take a lung tissue sample for diagnosis, or remove foreign objects from the airway.

When should a bronchoscopy be performed?

  • Chronic cough
  • Lung infection
  • Foreign body in the airway (bronchial tubes)
  • Pulmonary tuberculosis
  • Chest X-ray shows a mass or tumor

Preparation Before Bronchoscopy

  • Inform the doctor and staff about any chronic diseases, drug allergies, and current medications.
  • If you take blood thinners or anti-platelet medication, inform your doctor in advance to prepare to stop the medication before the procedure.
  • **Fast from food and water for 6–8 hours** before the examination to prevent aspiration of food into the airway.
  • Remove any dentures before the procedure.
  • A chest X-ray and blood tests must be done beforehand.
  • You must bring a relative with you, and **you are not allowed to drive yourself home** after the procedure, as intravenous sedation will be administered, which impairs driving ability.
