Shingles
Shingles is caused by the same virus that causes chickenpox. After recovering from chickenpox, the virus lies dormant in the nerve ganglia. When the body's immunity is lower than normal, the latent virus reactivates, multiplies, and causes nerve inflammation, resulting in shingles. It can occur at any age, but the risk of developing shingles and its complications increases with age.
