The endocrine system is responsible for producing hormones that control the function of various organs in the body. Hormones are produced by endocrine glands and directly enter the bloodstream. Organs in the endocrine system include the hypothalamus, pituitary gland, thyroid gland, parathyroid glands, adrenal glands, pancreas, ovaries, and testes.

Endocrine diseases include:

  • Various types of diabetes, including gestational diabetes
  • Thyroid diseases, including abnormally high or low thyroid hormone levels, thyroid nodules, and thyroid cancer
  • Obesity
  • High blood cholesterol
  • High blood pressure with known causes, often found in younger individuals, those with severe high blood pressure, or associated with electrolyte abnormalities
  • Osteoporosis and calcium abnormalities
  • Hormone imbalances, including excessive hormone production or hormone deficiency, such as pituitary hormones, adrenal hormones, pancreatic hormones, and sex hormones

  • Assess the risk of pre-diabetes and provide methods for diabetes prevention.
  • Provide treatment and blood sugar control to prevent complications.
  • Refer to specialists for the treatment of diabetes complications, such as:
  1. Diagnosis and treatment of diabetic retinopathy by ophthalmologists using laser photocoagulation (Panretinal photocoagulation; PRP).
  2. Treatment of diabetic foot ulcers by surgical specialists.
  3. Custom footwear for diabetic patients by rehabilitation physicians.
  4. Internal medicine specialists for neurological diseases, cardiovascular diseases, etc.
  • Care for pregnant women with diabetes.
  • Provide education and advice on self-management for diabetes.
  • Offer health check-up programs for diabetes screening.

  • Measure thyroid hormone levels and provide treatment with anti-thyroid medication or hormone replacement therapy.
  • Perform thyroid ultrasound and fine-needle aspiration cytology for thyroid nodules.
  • Refer to specialists for surgery when indicated.
  • Monitor treatment after thyroid surgery or radioactive iodine therapy.

  • Diagnose the causes of obesity, assess complications from obesity, and provide treatment.
  • Provide education and advice on dietary adjustments, lifestyle changes, and exercise for weight loss.
  • Provide treatment with medical weight loss medications.
  • Follow up with patients who have undergone bariatric surgery.

  • Assess risk and diagnose osteoporosis by performing bone density tests.
  • Measure calcium levels, electrolyte balance, vitamin D levels, or parathyroid hormone levels when indicated.
  • Provide medication for osteoporosis treatment.
  • Refer to specialists for surgery when indicated.

  • Diagnose the causes of high blood pressure in younger individuals, those with severe high blood pressure, or high blood pressure associated with electrolyte abnormalities by performing hormone tests.
  • Treat high blood pressure according to the identified cause with blood pressure medication or refer to specialists for surgery when indicated.

  • Diagnose hormone level abnormalities.
  • Provide treatment with anti-hormone medication or hormone replacement therapy.
  • Provide advice and refer to specialists for surgical treatment when indicated.
