Vein Scanner Technology
Many people have had unpleasant experiences with blood draws—whether it's the pain of the needle, the discomfort of a nurse searching for a vein, or worst of all, having to be poked multiple times because the vein couldn't be located.
Traditionally, a tourniquet is tied around the arm to make the veins swell and become visible. This method relies heavily on the experience and expertise of the medical staff. Locating veins can be particularly challenging in pediatric patients, the elderly, obese individuals, or patients who are restless and unable to cooperate.
"Today, innovative technology makes blood collection more accurate, safe, and significantly faster."
The Vein Scanner works by emitting near-infrared light onto the skin. The hemoglobin in the blood absorbs the light, allowing the device to calculate the exact position of the veins and project a real-time visual map of the vascular network directly onto the skin's surface.
Advantages of the Vein Scanner
- Increased Accuracy: Pinpoints the exact location for needle insertion.
- Reduced Anxiety: Provides peace of mind for patients with a phobia of needles.
- Enhanced Visibility: Makes it easy to find small, deep, or fragile veins.
- Time-Saving: Essential for emergency patients where every second counts.
- Minimized Trauma: Reduces the risk of multiple puncture attempts and bruising.
While this technology significantly reduces the risk of repeated needle sticks, the skill and clinical judgment of the medical professional remain the most vital components.
At Khon Kaen Ram Hospital, we prioritize patient comfort and safety. We have established a dedicated "IV Team," consisting of professional nurses who specialize in vascular access for both children and adults, ensuring the highest standards of care.
