Surgical Wound Care (การดูแลแผลผ่าตัด)

Proper wound care is vital for a smooth recovery and to prevent complications such as infection or scarring. Please follow these guidelines strictly after your procedure:

1. Keep the Dressing Intact: Do not open or remove the dressing until your scheduled follow-up appointment. If the plaster accidentally peels off or becomes loose, visit Khon Kaen Ram Hospital or your nearest clinic for a professional redressing before your appointment date.
2. Stay Dry: Protect the wound from moisture and dirt. Do not let the area get wet, as water can cause the sutures (stitches) to fail and significantly increase the risk of bacterial infection.
3. Waterproof Dressings: If you have been provided with a waterproof dressing, you may shower. However, avoid scrubbing or rubbing the area to prevent the edges from lifting. After showering, gently pat the dressing dry with a clean towel.
4. Complete Your Medication: Take the full course of antibiotics exactly as prescribed by your doctor, even if the wound looks healthy. This ensures all bacteria are eradicated.

Warning Signs: Seek Medical Attention Immediately

Contact your doctor or visit the emergency department if you notice any of the following symptoms:

• Wound Separation: The edges of the incision start to pull apart (dehiscence).
• Signs of Infection: Excessive redness, swelling, or heat around the wound.
• Abnormal Discharge: Blood, pus, or cloudy fluid leaking from the site.
• Foul Odor: An unpleasant smell coming from the wound.
• Severe Pain: Intense pain that does not improve with medication, especially if accompanied by a high fever.
