Heat Stroke
Early Warning Signs
- Muscle cramps
- Dizziness, lightheadedness, or feeling faint
- Fatigue, weakness, or heart palpitations
If you experience these symptoms and do not rest immediately, they can progress into Heat Stroke. In some cases, Heat Stroke can occur suddenly without prior warning.
Prevention is the best medicine. Since the cause is heat, the solution is simple: avoid prolonged exposure to high temperatures, stay hydrated, and do not overexert yourself.
First Aid: What to do if you see someone with Heat Stroke
- Move the person to a shaded or cool area with good ventilation.
- Use a fan to help lower their body temperature.
- Remove excess clothing and wipe their body with cool or room-temperature water to reduce heat.
- Transport them to the hospital as quickly as possible.
